NABE Scholars Program

About the NABE Scholars Program

Launched in June 2020, the NABE Scholars Program builds on the NABE Foundation’s longstanding commitment to supporting the next generation of economists. The program aims to expand access and increase diversity within the business economics profession by creating opportunities for talented students and early-career professionals from groups historically underrepresented in the field.Through the NABE Scholars Program, participants gain meaningful exposure to the business economics community, build lasting professional relationships, and engage with leaders in the field. Scholars are introduced to the breadth of the business economics profession while developing the skills, networks, and opportunities that support long-term career growth.

The program supports individuals from historically underrepresented groups in economics, including women, members of ethnic and racial minority groups, immigrants to the United States, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and individuals living with disabilities.

Hear From Our Scholars

The impact of the NABE Scholars Program is best told through the voices of those who have experienced it. Watch our scholars share how the program has shaped their professional journeys and connected them with the broader business economics community.

What the NABE Scholars Receive

NABE Scholars are invited to participate in a variety of professional development and networking opportunities throughout the year. These experiences are designed to introduce scholars to the broader business economics community and help them build meaningful connections within the profession.

A key component of the program is mentorship. Each NABE Scholar is paired with an experienced NABE member who serves as a mentor throughout the program year. Through this relationship, scholars gain valuable career guidance, insights into the profession, and opportunities to build meaningful connections within the business economics community.

Conferences and Events

Scholars are encouraged to make the most of their year in the program and participate in as many events as possible. Each scholar is expected to attend at least two in-person NABE events during their program year.

These might include:

  • NABE Foundation Economic Measurement Seminar
  • NABE Annual Meeting
  • NABE Tech Economics Conference & Industry Job Fair (TEC)
  • NABE Economic Policy Conference

Additional Benefits

  • Mentorship from an experienced NABE member
  • One-year complimentary NABE membership
  • Complimentary registration for one Certified Business Economist (CBE) course
  • A travel stipend of up to $400 to support participation in NABE events

These opportunities allow scholars to gain exposure to leading economists, expand their professional networks, and deepen their understanding of how economics is applied across industries and policy environments.

Why the NABE Scholars Program Matters

The NABE Scholars Program helps ensure that the next generation of business economists reflects the full diversity of talent and perspectives within our society. By supporting promising students and early-career professionals from historically underrepresented groups, the program strengthens both the profession and the broader economic community.

Through mentorship, professional development opportunities, and direct engagement with NABE members, scholars gain early access to the networks and experiences that shape successful careers in business economics. At the same time, the program enriches the NABE community by bringing new voices, ideas, and perspectives into the field.

By investing in emerging economists today, the NABE Scholars Program is helping build a stronger, more inclusive future for the business economics profession.
