EMS Attendance Justification Toolkit

Talking Points for an Applicant

Economic conditions have compelled many companies to reduce training and travel budgets so, regardless of the merits of attending the Economic Measurement Seminar, you will probably need to justify the expense and time away from the office. Here are some tips and talking points on the Seminar that you will want to consider:

  • Focus on what you will bring back to your organization as a return for their investment. For example:

    • Knowledge of data sources and analytical techniques that will assist me to enhance the organization’s efforts (e.g., planning, economic forecast, marketing, etc.). See the full list of data series covered by EMS sessions.

    • Real examples of how institutions like ours use data

    • Valuable contacts at statistical agencies who can help us to better understand the data

    • An expanded network of economists and data users to lean on when we need assistance

  • Emphasize that NABE offers a comprehensive program that is unique to the field of economics and analytics focused on vast amounts of available data to inform business decision making.

  • All presenters are leading economists and analysts in their fields. They will introduce you to a wide range of products that are available from government sources and the private sector.

  • You will obtain a complete picture of the uses and limitations of available data as each session pairs data producers with leading data users.

  • You will earn a Certificate in Economic Measurement.

  • Offer to prepare and deliver a short presentation and Q&A to your colleagues to share what you've learned. That way others in your unit will also benefit from your attendance.

  • Be ready with a plan that shows who will cover for you while you are attending the Seminar.

  • The registration fee is affordable as the Seminar is conducted by The NABE Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to providing professionals with the skills and tools they need to succeed.

  • Be sure to check out the registration page for the NABE Member or Government Employee rates, if you qualify.
